At Mr.Car, we carry out metalwork and welding to repair, restore and fabricate metal vehicle parts. We cut and machine metal, remove damaged sections, fit parts in place, repair mountings and weld components after an initial inspection.
The scope of work depends on the material, metal thickness, location of the part, extent of corrosion and access to the damaged area. Before work begins, a technician assesses the condition of the part and determines whether it can be repaired safely or needs to be replaced.
Work involving load-bearing body components, suspension mountings and other safety-critical parts is carried out only after the condition of the metal and the feasibility of a reliable repair have been assessed.
Corrosion and cracks may extend beyond the visible area. Before cutting or welding, the surrounding metal, mounting points and access to the part must be checked so that a safe, durable repair method can be chosen.
When Metalwork and Welding Are Needed
A cracked, distorted or corroded mounting can cause play, vibration and unusual noises. After inspection, we determine whether the part can be repaired or whether a new part must be fabricated or fitted.
We remove rusted, distorted or poorly repaired metal back to sound material, then prepare the area for repair or for fitting a replacement section.
If a new or fabricated part cannot be fitted without modification, we mark, cut, drill, dress and accurately adapt it while taking adjacent components into account.
Seized fasteners, sheared bolts and damaged threaded joints may require metalwork, localised heating, drilling out or fabrication of a new mounting.
Before welding, we check the cause of the damage and the condition of the metal around the crack. Welding is carried out only when it can provide a reliable repair.
Using a sample or dimensions, we can fabricate or modify simple mountings, plates, brackets and other metal parts once the design and material have been agreed.
Why welding begins with metal preparation
We clean and inspect the area to establish the true extent of corrosion, cracking or distortion.
We remove weakened metal, dress the edges and fit the repair section. The quality of the joint depends directly on the preparation.
We check the joint, the position of the part and the security of the mounting. Where required, we carry out additional finishing and protection using the agreed method.

- The material, thickness and actual condition of the metal
- The extent of corrosion, distortion or damage
- The location of the part and access for the work
- The loads placed on the component and the required strength of the joint
- Whether adjacent parts must be removed and the vehicle protected
- The amount of metal, fasteners and other materials required
How Metalwork and Welding Are Carried Out
We confirm the job and inspect the damage, the condition of the metal, the mounting points and access to the repair area.
We determine whether the part can be repaired, whether a section of metal must be replaced, whether a new component must be fabricated or whether the complete assembly needs replacing.
Before work begins, we agree the estimated time, labour cost and required materials. Any additional work is carried out only after customer approval.
Where necessary, we remove adjacent components, cut out damaged metal, clean the work area and fit the repair section.
We carry out the agreed metalwork and welding while checking the position of the part and the quality of the joint.
We check the security of the mounting, the geometry and the completed work. Where required, we carry out the agreed finishing treatment.
